About hot-dip galvanizing

Hot-dip galvanizing SIGNUM

What is hot-dip galvanizing?

Hot-dip galvanizing is the most effective protection of steel against corrosion. The process involves immersing a cleaned steel product into molten zinc at a temperature of around 450 °C, creating a durable zinc coating. This coating protects the steel both actively and passively and lasts for decades without maintenance.

The difference between hot-dip and electrogalvanizing?

Application method

HOT-DIP GALVANIZING

Immersion in molten zinc (450 °C)

ELECTROGALVANIZING

Electrolytic plating in a bath

Coating thickness

HOT-DIP GALVANIZING

50–150 μm (thick, approx. 10× more than galvanic)

ELECTROGALVANIZING

5–15 μm (thin)

Service life

HOT-DIP GALVANIZING

30–50 years (or more depending on the environment)

ELECTROGALVANIZING

1–10 years (depending on conditions)

Resistance

HOT-DIP GALVANIZING

High – mechanical and chemical

ELECTROGALVANIZING

Lower – rather decorative protection

Suitable use

HOT-DIP GALVANIZING

Outdoor structures, masts, fences, halls, bridge components

ELECTROGALVANIZING

Smaller parts, interior elements, design

Benefits of hot-dip galvanizing

Long service life

It reliably lasts for decades without the need for maintenance, even in demanding outdoor conditions. In practice, this means the structures do not need to be regularly painted or otherwise treated.

Comprehensive protection

The zinc layer covers the entire surface of the product, including edges, corners, cavities and joints, where other surface treatments often cannot reach. As a result, every detail of the structure is protected.

Mechanical resistance

The layer created during hot-dip galvanizing is firmly bonded to the steel, and therefore resists abrasion, impacts and weather effects. The surface thus does not peel or crack like conventional coatings.

Long-term savings

It is a one-time investment, maintenance costs practically disappear. In total, hot-dip galvanizing thus becomes the most advantageous solution.

Eco-friendliness and sustainability

Zinc makes meaningful use of its long service life, so the consumption of materials and energy for repeated production is reduced. Zinc is also fully recyclable.

Aesthetic appearance

The surface has a uniform, metallic glossy colour that looks technical and elegant.

What do we galvanize?

Everything that can be galvanized. Series products as well as individual pieces. Structural steel parts, semi-finished products and end products that need durable and reliable protection against corrosion. Whether it is traction masts or public lighting masts, heavy profile structures of assembled halls, construction platforms, railing and balcony structures, trailers, gates, doors, fences, substations, benches or even works of art made of steel

Suitable materials

  • Common carbon steel

The most common and most suitable option.

  • Low-alloy steels

With the right composition, they guarantee a uniform coating.

  • Cast iron parts

For smaller components, hot-dip galvanizing is a reliable protection against corrosion.

Special galvanizing services

Centrifugal hot-dip galvanizing

FOR SMALL PARTS

The zinc layer covers the entire surface of the product, including edges, corners, cavities and joints, where other surface treatments often cannot reach. As a result, every detail of the structure is protected.

Passivation against white rust

FOR AN ATTRACTIVE APPEARANCE

Preservation or passivation of the zinc coating against white rust makes it possible to maintain the appearance of freshly galvanized material in the long term and protects the coating from oxidation.

Duplex coatings

FOR THE LONGEST ANTI-CORROSION PROTECTION

The combination of hot-dip galvanizing and a paint layer ensures up to 2.3× longer corrosion protection life. In our modern paint shop in Hustopeče, we apply this durable duplex treatment to finished galvanized products for you.

Quality is a matter of course for us.
